British New York Vice-Admiralty Court.
Captured ship: Crow Lane of Bermuda (master Clive Bean or McBane).
Capture history: a British merchant ship (sloop, 30 or 40 tons, 7 men), bound from Turks Island to Virginia, laden with salt; taken on 1 January 1779 near Cape Henry by the privateer Experiment (Alexander McPherson commanding), and brought into New York.
Intended voyage: within the United States.
Court papers numbered CP 1-3:-
- [CP 1]: affidavit of papers brought in by the prize master Charles Penman mariner, 18 January 1779;
- [CP 2]: libel in McPharson v The sloop Crow Lane and her cargo, 18 January 1779;
- [CP 3]: deposition of Malcolm McCanley, of North Britain, 22 January 1779.
Ship's Papers numbered SP 1-7:-
- SP 1: ship's register, Bermuda;
- SP 2: receipt for Greenwich Hospital sixpences, Bermuda;
- SP 3: Bermuda customs clearance (ballast);
- SP 4-SP 5: licence from the Governor of Bermuda to depart for the Caicos Islands, and to take on four named crew, 7 November 1778;
- SP 6: permit to load salt;
- SP 7: clearance from Turks Island for Bermuda, laden with 1100 bushels of salt, 5 December 1778.
