Captured ship: Le Compte d'Artois [Le Comte d'Artois] (master Pierre Girodroux).
History: a French merchant ship (400 tons, 6 guns, 38 or 39 men), bound from Isle de France (Mauritius), via the Cape of Good Hope to Lorient, laden with redwood, rattan, cowries, pepper, cotton, coffee, handkerchiefs and muslin silk; taken on 5 April 1779 in latitude 47°26'N, longitude 14°W by the privateers Minerva (William Robbin commanding) and Ranger (Joseph Robbins commanding), and brought into Bristol.
Court papers: 1-27; Ship's papers: 28-68. [These are interim paper numbers, and are likely to change once more fully catalogued].
