Captured ship: Commit (commander John Shaw).
Capture history: an American privateer (sloop, 15 tons, 9 guns, 20 men) bound from Egg Harbor, New Jersey on a cruise; taken on 29 September 1778 off Barnegat, New Jersey by the loyalist privateer Hammond (Bridger Goodrich commanding), and brought into New York.
Intended voyage: a cruise from the United States.
