Captured ship: Chasseur of La Rochelle (master Jean Robin).
Capture history: a French merchant ship (230 tons, 4 guns, 18 men, formerly the British ship Hunter, taken on a voyage from England to Russia by American privateers and sold to the French), now bound from La Rochelle, laden with military stores, salt and dry goods [to the Americas]; retaken on 15 July 1779 by the loyalist privateer Speedwell (Robert Casson commanding), and brought into New York.
Intended voyage: from France to the United States.
