British New York Vice-Admiralty Court.
Captured ship: Charming Sally (master John Carey). Capture hHistory: an American merchant ship (sloop, 40 tons, 4 guns, 5 men) bound from Baltimore, Maryland to Martinique, laden with tobacco; taken on 25 January 1779 about 3° S of the Capes of Virginia by the loyalist privateer Musquito (Graham Barnes commanding), and brought into New York.
Intended voyage: from the United States to the Caribbean Islands.
Court papers numbered CP 1-5:-
- [CP 1]: affidavit of papers brought in by Barnes, 1 February 1779;
- [CP 2]: libel in Barnes v The sloop Charming Sally and her cargo, 1 February 1779;
- [CP 3-CP 4]: two depositions, of Warren White and William Green, 1 February 1779;
- [CP 4]: monition, 1 February 1779.
[Decision: condemned, if no response to the monition by 22 February 1779].
Ship's Papers numbered SP 1-4 (Massachusetts papers):-
- SP 1: official ships paper;
- SP 2-SP 3: ship's buisness papers;
- SP 4: mail in transit: business letter from Archibald Gamble, Baltimore to Vance, Caldwell & Vance, Dominica, 22 December 1778.;
