Description

British New York Vice-Admiralty Court.

Captured ship: Camden (commander not known).

Capture history: an armed American ship (sloop, 60 tons, 10 guns, abandoned by her crew); taken on 6 October 1777 in the Hudson River, New York by HMS Experiment (Sir James Wallace commanding), and brought into New York.

Intended voyage: within the United States.

Court papers numbered CP 1-2:-

  • [CP 1]: affidavit of papers (no papers) brought in by the prize master Peter Dupuy Abbott, midshipman, 31 October 1777;
  • [CP 2]: libel in Wallace v The sloop Camden, 6 November 1777.

[Papers previously wrongly identified as Court papers: 1-3 (large pencil numbers): sorted and renumbered in 2025; one paper moved to HCA 32/267/10].
