Captured ship: Betsey (master Bernard Gallagher).
Capture history: an American merchant ship (brigantine, 200 tons, 44 men including passengers) bound from Pont Boeuf [Paimboeuf?], France to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, laden with bale goods, gunpowder, lead, brandy; taken on 15 June 1782 off Lewes Town, Delaware in the Delaware River by HMS Santa Margarita (Elliot Salter commanding), HMS Santa Margarita (Elliot Salter commanding), HMS Lion (William Fooks commanding), HMS Lion (William Fooks commanding), HMS Hussar (Thomas Macnamara Russell commanding) and HMS Mentor ([Richard] Tillage commanding), and brought into New York.
Intended voyage: from France to the United States.
