British New York Vice-Admiralty Court.
Captured ship: Betsey (master Michael Williamson).
Capture history: an American merchant ship (55 tons) bound from Cap François, Saint Domingue to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, laden with coffee, molasses, salt; taken on 4 January 1777 [sic] in the Delaware River by HMS Roebuck (Andrew Snape Hamond commanding), and HMS Pearl (Thomas Wilkinson commanding, since deceased) and brought into New York.
Intended voyage: from the Caribbean Islands to the United States.
Court papers numbered CP 1-2:-
- [CP 1]: libel in Advocate General at the relation of Hamond and others v The Betsey, 23 May 1778;
- [CP 2]: affidavit of papers brought in by the prize master William Elliot midshipman, 3 July 1778.
[Papers previously wrongly identified as Court papers: 1-2 (large pencil numbers): sorted and renumbered in 2024].
