British New York Vice-Admiralty Court.
Captured ship: Betsey (master Custis Kellum).
Capture history: an American merchant ship (sloop, 50 or 60 tons, 6 men) bound from Cape Nicola Mole [Môle-Saint-Nicolas], Saint Domingue to Virginia, laden with dry goods, molasses, rum, liquors, salt, coffee, sugar; taken on 2 January 1778 in latitude 39°'N, longitude 70°W by HMS Swift (George Keppel commanding), and brought into New York.
Intended voyage: from the Caribbean Islands to the United States.
Court papers numbered CP 1-3:-
- [CP 1]: affidavit of papers brought in by the prize master Joseph Earle, midshipman, 25 February 1778;
- [CP 2]: libel in Advocate General at the relation of Keppel v The sloop Betsey, 25 February 1778;
- [CP 3]: deposition of Custis Kellum, 25 February 1778.

- SP 1: log book, July 1775 to January 1778.
