British New York Vice-Admiralty Court.
Captured ship: Bee (master Edward Hammond).
Capture history: an American ship (40 tons) bound from Beaufort, North Carolina to Curaçao, laden with naval stores, lard, tallow; taken on 22 February 1782 in latitude 31°30'N, longitude 70°W off Bermuda by HMS Perseverance (Skeffington Lutwidge commanding), and HMS Chatham (Andrew Snape Douglas commanding), and brought into New York.
Intended voyage: from the United States to the Caribbean Islands.
Court papers numbered CP 1-4:-
- [CP 1]: affidavit of papers brought in by the prize master John Chalmers, midshipman, 13 March 1782;
- [CP 2]: libel in Lutwidge v The schooner Bee, 13 March 1782;
- [CP 3]: monition, 13 March 1782;
- [CP 4]: letter from Lutwidge about papers found on the Bee, 22 February 1782.
[Decision: condemned, if no response to the monition by 3 April 1782].
