British New York Vice-Admiralty Court.
Captured ship: Bedecia or La Bedecie otherwise Betsey (master Pierre Giraud).
Capture history: an American or French merchant ship (50 tons, 7 men) bound from [St Lucia] to a port on the coast of America, laden with rum, sugar, cocoa, coffee, dry goods, gunpowder, arms, cannon; taken on 17 July 1778 at Block Island, Rhode Island by HMS Sphynx [Sphinx] (Alexander Graeme commanding), and brought into New York.
Intended voyage: from the Caribbean Islands to the United States.
