Description

British New York Vice-Admiralty Court.

Captured ship: Ann (master Christopher Bradley).

Capture history: an American merchant ship (brig, 150 tons) bound from Egg Harbor, New Jersey to Martinique, laden with lumber; taken on 14 June 1777 at Egg Harbor by HMS Haerlem (John Knight commanding), and HMS Roebuck (Andrew Snape Hamond commanding), and brought into New York.

Intended voyage: from the United States to the Caribbean Islands.

Court papers numbered CP 1-3:-

  • [CP 1]: affidavit of papers brought in by the prize master John Jurd, 24 October 1777;
  • [CP 2]: libel in Knight v The brig Ann and her cargo, 29 October 1777;
  • [CP 3]: deposition of Martin Bernard, 25 October 1777.

[Papers previously identified as Court papers: 1-3 (large pencil numbers): sorted and renumbered in 2024].
