Description

High Court of Admiralty.

Captured ship: America (master Robert Cunningham).

Capture history: a Scottish merchant ship, [laden with rum and salt]; taken as a patriot American ship in [February 1776] in Cape Fear River, North Carolina by HMS Cruizer (Francis Parry commanding), and there burnt [in May 1776].

Intended voyage: from the United States to Scotland.

Court papers numbered CP 1:-

  • [CP 1]: affidavit and claim of Robert Wells on behalf of James Gammell, merchant of Greenock, North Britain, the owner, 1781.

[Papers previously wrongly identified as Court papers: 1-2 (large pencil numbers): sorted and renumbered in 2024].
