Captured ship: Amelia or Jersey (master unknown).
Capture history: formerly (in 1777) the English slave-trader ship Amelia (master John McNeil) bound from Bance Island, Africa [Bunce Island, Sierra Leone] to the British West Indies, laden with enslaved people and elephants teeth [ivory], crewed with grometto [free black] seamen; taken on 1 February 1777 off St Kitts by an American privateer; now (1781) lying in the River Thames as the American ship Nancy and recognised as the Amelia.
Intended voyage: from West Africa to the Caribbean Islands.
