High Court of Admiralty.
Captured ship: Alweeran (master Lolke Pieters).
Capture history: a Dutch merchant ship (62 lasts, 7 men) bound from St Petersburg, Russia to Nantes, laden with hemp and iron; taken in 1779 and detained in the Downs by HMS Dunkirk (John Milligan commanding).
Intended voyage: from Russia to France.
Court papers numbered CP 1-5:-
- [CP 1]: attestation as to papers (numbered 1-13) brought in by Lieutenant John Ellis, 2 October 1779;
- [CP 2]: three depositions of Lolke Pieters, Martin Meyles and Jan Alberts, and commissioners affidavit, 2 October 1779;
- [CP 3]: affidavit and claim of Lolke Pieters, 14 October;
- [CP 4-CP 5]: abstracts and translations of the ships papers, for the claimant, and for the captor, 15 October 1779.
