Captured ship: Alphin of Philadelphia (master Samuel Davis, owner Richard Law).
Capture history: an American merchant ship (sloop, 100 tons, 30 men including 15 passengers) bound from Cap François, Saint Domingue to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, laden with sugar and coffee; taken on 2 May 1782 in latitude 36°N by HMS Amphitrite (Robert Biggs commanding), in sight of HMS Amphion (John Bazely commanding), HMS Hornet (Francis Tinsley commanding) and the privateer Digby (John Lawton commanding), and brought into New York.
Intended voyage: from the Caribbean Islands to the United States.
