Captured ship: Alice formerly Paragon (master John Porter, owners Messrs Blake and Russell of Charleston).
Capture history: an American merchant ship (sloop, 70 tons, 12 men) bound from Charleston, South Carolina to Nantes, laden with indigo and rice; taken on 1 May 1777 in latitude 47°N, longitude 4°W by HMS Foudroyant (John Jervis commanding), and brought into Plymouth.
Intended voyage: from the United States to France.
