Description

High Court of Admiralty.

Captured ship: Aimable Catherine (master Louis le Breton).

Capture history: a French coaster (4 men) bound from Noirmoutier, laden with rosin cakes and pitch; taken on 21 August 1779 in latitude 46°30'N, longitude 2°W by the privateer Stag of Jersey (Nicholas Chevalier commanding), and brought first into Ilfracombe, and then into Bristol.

Intended voyage: within France.

Court papers numbered CP 1-6:-

  • [CP 1]: attestation as to papers (numbered 1-4) brought in by the prize master John Bisson, 10 October 1780;
  • [CP 2]: standing interrogatories;
  • [CP 3]: two depositions of John Bisson and Jean Barreau;
  • [CP 4]: commissioners affidavit, 11 October 1780;
  • [CP 5]: allegation;
  • [CP 6]: translations of ship's papers.

Ship's Papers numbered SP 1-4:-

  • SP 1: bill of lading;
  • SP 2-SP 3: official ship's papers;
  • SP 4: muster roll
