Captured ship: Aigle (commander LeMoyne de Preneuf).
Capture history: a French naval ship (corvette, 300 tons, 136 crew, 1 passenger, formerly the English East India Company packet boat Eagle Packet taken in 1779 in the chops of the Channel by a joint French and Spanish fleet), now bound from Cap François, Saint Domingue to the Chesapeake in search of Admiral Vaudreuil's squadron; taken in fight on 19 August 1782 off Cape Henry, Virginia by HMS Duc de Chartres (John Child Purvis commanding), and brought into New York.
Intended voyage: from the Caribbean Islands to the United States.
