Description

High Court of Admiralty.

Captured ship: Age d'Or of Marseilles (master Pierre Mestre).

Capture history: a French merchant ship with a letter of marque (290 tons, 39 men, 18 named passengers) bound from St Pierre, Martinique to Marseilles, laden with sugar, coffee, cotton, cocoa, hides and cassia fistula; taken on 3 March 1780 in latitude 35°N, longitude 10°30'W of Paris by the privateer Dart (Daniel Yeoman commanding), and brought into Dartmouth.

Intended voyage: from the Caribbean Islands to France.

Court papers numbered CP 1-4:-

  • [CP 1]: attestation as to papers (numbered 1-35) brought in by the prize master John Smith, 21 March 1780;
  • [CP 2]: three depositions of Pierre Mestre, Isaac Bequet and Crepin Siccard, Dartmouth, 23 March 1780;
  • [CP 3]: allegation, 18 April 1780;
  • [CP 4]: translations of the ship's papers.

Ship's Papers numbered SP 1-35:-

  • SP 1-SP 4: official ship's papers;
  • SP 5-SP 35: trading papers, bills of lading;
  • SP 10: this bill of lading is not here, but is translated in CP 4.
