Description

British New York Vice-Admiralty Court.

Captured ship: Adventure (master David Pinkham).

Capture history: an American merchant ship (schooner, 10 tons) bound from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Boston, Massachusetts, laden with flour and bread; taken on 10 September 1777 at Cohenzie Creek, Delaware by HMS Liverpool (Henry Bellew commanding), and brought into [New York].

Intended voyage: within the United States.

Court papers numbered CP 1-2:-

  • [CP 1]: libel in Advocate General at the relation of Bellew v The schooner Adventure and her cargo, 20 April 1778;
  • [CP 2]: affidavit of papers brought in by the prize master Lieutenant Edward Rowe, 29 April 1778.

Ship's Papers numbered SP 1-2 (Pennsylvania papers):-

  • SP 1-SP 2: official ship's papers.
