British New York Vice-Admiralty Court.
Captured ship: Adventure (master Philip Chamberlain).
Capture history: an American merchant ship (sloop, 60 tons, 10 men) bound from Hampton, Virginia to St Eustatius, laden with tobacco; taken on 25 May 1778 in latitude 32°34'N, longitude 62°34'W by the loyalist privateer Enterprize (Daniel Squire commanding), and brought into [New York].
Intended voyage: from the United States to the Caribbean Islands.
Court papers numbered CP 1-4:-
- [CP 1]: libel in Squire v The sloop Adventure and her cargo, 10 June 1778;
- [CP 2]: affidavit of papers (log book or journal [not yet found], plus papers) brought in by the prize master William Greig, 12 June 1778;
- [CP 3-CP 4]: three depositions by Robert Sheldon, John Mason and William Gregg; 15 June 1778.
Ship's Papers numbered SP 1-19 (Virginia papers):-
- SP 1-SP 2: crew list and agreement, and pass;
- SP 3: orders by the master;
- SP 4-SP 19: bills of lading, receipts and commissions from local men and women to buy specified goods in [St Eustatius], such as paints, glue, shoes, handkerchiefs, a Chinese gown, cups and saucers, linen, stockings and many more.
