Captured ship: Active (master Thomas Mesnard).
Capture history: an American merchant ship fitted as a privateer (brigantine, 80 tons, 14 guns, 50 men and 6 passengers) bound from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to St Eustatius, laden with tobacco, indigo, and pig iron; taken on 24 May 1781 in latitude 36°N, longitude 75°W by HMS Iris (James Hawker commanding), and brought into New York.
Intended voyage: from the United States to the Caribbean Islands.
