British New York Vice-Admiralty Court.
Captured ship: Active (master Charles Barnet Goff).
Capture history: an American merchant ship (schooner, 30 tons) bound from [Virginia], laden with tobacco and bar iron; taken on 21 October 1780 at the Cliffs of Patuxent, Chesapeake Bay, Virginia by the loyalist privateers Active (Charles Barnet Goff commanding), Trimmer (John Philips commanding), and Flying Fish (John Taylor commanding), and brought into [New York].
Intended voyage: within the United States.
Court papers numbered CP 1-2:-
- [CP 1]: affidavit of papers brought in by the prize master John Royall, 7 November 1780;
- [CP 2]: libel in Goff v The schooner Active and her cargo, 29 November 1780.
[Papers previously wrongly identified as Court papers: 1-2 (large pencil numbers): sorted and renumbered in 2024].
