Description

Prisoner name: James Wheller.

Prisoner occupation: Stonemason.

Court and date of trial: Somerset Epiphany Sessions, Wells, 1826.

Crime: Stealing fowls, from Vincent Stuckey (a Somerset county magistrate).

Initial sentence: Seven years transportation.

Gaoler's report: 'A very loose character'. 'Well behaved in the hulks'.

Annotated: 'Nil May 3 1828' and May 20 1828.

Petitioner(s): Vincent Stuckey (prosecutor).

Grounds for clemency: His confederates received only a short term of imprisonment; his good conduct on the hulks; he will easily obtain employment if liberated; the punishment has had due effect.

Additional Information: The prisoner was convicted with two others [un-named] who received 'some short imprisonment'. He was held on board Ganymede convict hulk.
