Description

Prisoner name: James Watson.

Prisoner age: 30 years.

Court and date of trial: Wiltshire Michaelmas Sessions, Salisbury, 19 October 1827.

Crime: Stealing a watch, from Edward House at Salisbury.

Initial sentence: Seven years transportation.

Gaoler's report: 'Indifferent character'.

Annotated: 'Nil May 21 1828'.

Petitioner(s): Mary Clerk (mother). James Watson (the convict).

Grounds for clemency: An honest young man; mistaken identity; the principal witness swore falsely.

Additional Information: Received on board Leviathan convict hulk on 16 November 1827.
