Crime: Assault, upon James Britton and his family on 10 February 1828.
Initial sentence: Three months imprisonment and each to find £10 surety for good behaviour for 12 months.
Petitioner(s): Charles Trew (the elder) (navigator), John Trew (yeoman) [uncle] and John George (Keeper of the Monmouthshire House of Correction, Usk), undersigned by 16 inhabitants of [Trevethin, Monmouthshire].
Grounds for clemency: Mistaken identity by very young witnesses and a malicious testimony by one Isaac Pinn who had previously been imprisoned for a month on a charge of stealing potatoes from the Trew family.
