Description

Prisoner name: Margaret Rose.

Prisoner age: 30 years.

Prisoner occupation: Servant.

Court and date of trial: Old Bailey, April 1828.

Crime: Stealing from her employer, Mr Anderson (a bankrupt) of Union Street in Bond Street [London] by pawning his property.

Initial sentence: 14 years transportation.

Annotated: 'Ordered to penitentiary'.

Petitioner(s): Charles Lambert (former employer) of New Bond Street [London] and Robert Webber (another former employer) of Gilbert Street [London], undersigned by 28 inhabitants of London.

Grounds for clemency: She was forced into the crime by the poverty of her master's household; her previous good character; her former employers will find her employment if she be liberated.
