Description

Prisoner name: John Ringer.

Prisoner occupation: Servant's assistant.

Court and date of trial: Old Bailey, 1 July 1825.

Crime: Stealing plate, the property of Edward Martin Foxhall, in the dwelling house of Elizabeth Ann Foxhall (his employer).

Initial sentence: Seven years transportation.

Gaoler's report: 'Well-behaved man'.

Annotated: 'Nil, May 21 1828'.

Petitioner(s): John Ringer (the convict) undersigned by Elizabeth Ann Foxhall (employer) and Edward Martin Foxhall (prosecutor) with Thomas Winter (former employer) and Mary Brook (aunt). Thomas Winter. Five petitions from John Clark.

Grounds for clemency: His first offence; his previous irreproachable character; he is sincerely penitent; his ill health is likely to cause his death before expiration of his sentence; employment has been arranged for him should he be liberated; the prosecutor joins in the petition.

Other papers: Letter from J S Patterson introducing petitioner John Clark. Note from W Peel to Colonel Peel informing him that the case will be brought to Sir Robert Peel's notice when the report from the hulks is received.

Additional Information: Held on board the Ganymede hulk.
