Description

Prisoner name: Park Howlett; Thomas Bushell.

Prisoner details: Aged 26 (Howlett), 21 (Bushell).

Court and date of trial: Norfolk Lent Assizes, Thetford, 1830.

Crime: Poaching.

Initial sentence: Seven years transportation.

Gaoler's report: Character bad, connected with poachers.

Annotated: Conduct good on board the Leviathan. Free pardon 23 October 1834.

Petitioner(s): Thomas Bushell, the prisoner.

Grounds for clemency: The prisoner's youth; first offence; ill health, as testified by extract from surgeon's report.

Correspondence: Letter from magistrates of Wymondham, Norfolk, stating that prisoners are of bad character and part of a poaching gang, two of whom have already been transported. Covering letter with petition from Thomas Bushell, the prisoner, on board Racoon hospital ship, Gosport [Hampshire].

Additional Information: Thomas Bushell held on Leviathan hulk, then on Racoon hospital ship, Gosport. Park Howlett transported.
