Description

Prisoner name: Joseph Hill (or Thomas Hill); Henry Preston; John Austin.

Prisoner details: All three journeymen workmen in Birmingham [Warwickshire].

Court and date of trial: Warwick Lent Assizes, 1830.

Crime: Manslaughter of Joseph Fitter at Aston, Warwickshire.

Initial sentence: 12 months imprisonment.

Annotated: Remaining part of sentence remitted. Vide recommendation of the Lord Chief Baron.

Petitioner(s): Thomas Hill, John Austin and Henry Preston, the prisoners.

Grounds for clemency: The deceased instigated the fight which was conducted fairly; his death was the result of a fall.
