Arts Council England
Records were held by the Arts Council England until transfer to The National Archives in 2013.
The Arts Council England was originally created in 1994 as the Arts Council of England when it replaced the Arts Council of Great Britain; along with the Arts Council Wales and the Arts Council Scotland which were to be adminstered separately from that date.
The Arts Council of England was responsible for co-ordinating the funding and implementation of the arts in England from an annual grant-in-aid provided by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS).
In 2002, the Arts Council of England merged with ten regional arts boards of England. These were:
Head Office. East. East Midlands. London. North East. North West. South East. South West. West Midlands. Yorkshire.
In 2003 the new organisation was named Arts Council England.
The Arts Council England 'Vision 2012' Team was the national co-ordination body for investment in the national 'Cultural Olympiad'.
In 2010 the Arts Council England published its ten-year strategic framework for the arts entitled 'Achieving great art for everyone'. Arts Council England had a significant role in the co-ordination, funding and commissioniong of works for the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games.
