Description

Folio Range: [seq 300-306; folios 125-126].

Case Reference: Elizabeth Heyward, 6 February 1647 [and William Chadwell].

Description: [seq 302; folio 125] Letter from the Gloucester committee, 6 February 1647, forwarding two doubtful cases of delinquency, which by Ordinance of Parliament should be referred to the central Sequestration Committee. The cases are those of Mrs Elizabeth Heyward, widow, of the city of Gloucester, and Mr William Chadwell of Broadwell in Gloucestershire. Signed: Jasper Clutterbooke (Mayor of Gloucester), William Shepheard, Nicholas Webb.

[seq 303-304; folio 126] Summary of Elizabeth Heyward's case:

- Deposition, 17 March 1645, of William Jordan, that Mrs Heyward, widow of John Heyward, late Alderman of the city of Gloucester, was at the King's home near Gloucester, and lived in Bristol for four months with her daughter when she was pregnant, and stayed there until her son-in-law Mr Elbridge, and his father were dead.

- Order, 14 May 1645, to seize the estate of Mrs Heyward.

- Heyward's testimony in her defence, 9 June 1645.

- Order by the Gloucester committee, 19 July 1645, to take off the order against her estate, pending the judgement of the central committee.

[seq 304; folio 126] Summary of William Chadwell's case:

- Depositions, 3 August 1646, of John Shayler, that he heard William Chadwell say that he had sent four horses to the King, and maintains his son in the King's army; and of William Barker, John Hale, John Hodgkin and John Humphries to similar effect.

- Order, 8 January 1647, to certify to the central committee the cause of William Chadwell's delinquency.
