John Nelson, Master Shipwright and J. Foote, Master Shipwrights Assistant, Sheerness. Receipt of warrants not to dismantle the Otter sloop and to take the Brazen cutter in hand, when she is paid off. They have examined the fastenings on both ships which are iron under the load draft with both vessels being copper bottomed, the former was done at Deptford and the latter here. They opine, that as the iron fastenings will be corroded, it will be necessary to remove the copper to examine the bottoms and the fastenings and propose, that as it will be some time before a dock is vacant, the work is done at another port. Ask for directions.
