Commissioner Sir Richard Beach, Chatham. Asks whether decayed compasses should be sent to London for repair. Also asks for direction regarding the repair of flags sent from Sheerenss. Tomorrow the Purveyor is going to view Mr Mason's timber. He is sending an account of Mr Spong's scantlings. He has given Captain Nugent the Board's instructions but they are 40 short of the required number of men so asks to reduce the number of rowers from 10 to 6. Proposes that one boat will be sufficient for the scouts after Ladyday.
