Commissioner Sir Richard Beach, Chatham. Captain Nugent has been appointed in place of Captain Page as Commander of the guardboats. Asks for direction as to whether the alterations he has proposed will be implemented, whether Captain Nugent is to be allowed 2 servants to be borne on the Ordinary and whether the issue of Officers' servants has been resolved. They have procured a tree to make cheeks for the Monmouth but have had to pay ready money. Asks for direction regarding a quantity of reed that has been offered to the Purveyor and whether the Dunkirk should be sent to the Hope. He will report on the Monmouth's mast but does not believe that it was rotten. If the sails were very taut the mast could have been broken by a gale. Captain Russell's Boatswain will be give kersey.
