Description

Commissioner Sir Richard Beach, Chatham. He has written to the Mayor of Rochester and sent a warrant to the Magistrates of Strood for 40 able men to assist carrying the ships about so that it can be done without using the Ropemakers. Is sending another copy of anchor stocks required for the 15 ships. Mr Kipping's stempiece proved to be rotten so if necessary they will bolt 2 pieces together rather than wait for Mr Mason's. Tomorrow the Purveyor is going to survey a parcel of compass timber. Mr Atway the Shipwright is offering timber suitable for a longboat. Mr Lee's vessel of plank has not arrived. They lack wainscot for repairing the pinnaces but have done the best they can. Is sending a report of the time the 7 Joiners spent on the Defiance after she went to the Hope over and above the time spent on her coach and cabins by 7 or 8 Shipwrights. The value of the work was 4 times the estimate. Is sending his proposals regarding the scout boats.
