Description

Phineas Bowles, Storekeeper, Tangiers. He has not had a response to his request regarding his salary. He can come to England to discuss some accounts and can leave his brother in law Charles Collier in charge of the stores in his absence. He has not had time to send a report of stores issued but will do so. Today a French ship from Algiers said that the Corsairs have declared war and that Sir John Narborough left Algiers 20 days ago. Copy of letter dates 28th Feb 1678. On the 18th the St David, Captain Sir Richard Munden, brought Mr Sheeres, Commissioner, to be the assistant to Sir John Narborough. He had no orders from the Board regarding the issuing and receiving of stores so he will proceed as formerly with Captain Beverly agreeing the delivery of stores. On the 16th he received stores on the Constant Friendship, Master Obediah Sporne, in convoy of the Foresight, Captain Willshaw, with a memorial from Thomas Turner, Storekeeper of Deptford. He is having difficulty finding boats and men to unload the stores. He is in need of store rooms. Mr Sheere has hired a house on the waterfont from Mr Senhouse and he suggests a method of payment by credit in Cadiz. He suggests that his salary should be paid as commission.
