The Industrial Policy, Finance and Employment Division (IAE 3) was created in 1983. Functions covered comprised general and sectoral policy measures, specifically relating to railways, water and air transport and Channel Tunnel funding. The division was set up to provide economic advice on proposed policy measures relating to industrial policy with regard to costing, productivity and benefits. The team was also responsible for liaison with The National Economic Development Council.
