In 2012 an independent panel of experts chaired by Dame Fiona Caldicott was appointed to conduct a review of Information Governance on behalf of the Secretary of State for Health. The aim of the Review was to advise on how to achieve a better balance between protecting and sharing confidential personal information in the health and social care services.
