The Boundary Commission for Scotland is responsible for reviews of UK Parliamentary constituencies in Scotland; and Scottish Parliament constituencies and regions. The Commission is an Advisory Non-departmental Public Body sponsored and wholly funded by the Scotland Office; it is independent and non-political.
The Commission was founded in 1944 under the provision of the House of Commons (Redistribution of Seats) Act 1944; it is currently constituted under the Parliamentary Constituencies Act 1986 and the Boundary Commissions Act 1992. Its constitution, duties and powers are detailed in Schedule 1 to the Scotland Act 1998.
