Description

The majority of files in this series comprise matters of routine administration. However there are also files of historical interest. Files to be selected are likely to be limited to those discussing royal matters and the civil list, significant discussions on the management of the Consolidated Fund and National Loans Fund between the Comptroller and Auditor General (House of Commons) and senior Treasury officials and significant policies on judicial salaries and pensions. Some special interest files on election expenses where or if they exist will also be preserved where they raise policy issues.

The 'CSDO' prefix denotes the registry theme 'Civil Service Department and Organisation'.

Administrative / biographical background

The Accounts Division was created in 1982 as part of the HM Treasury re-organisation. It took over some of the functions of the Civil Service Department after it was abolished late in that year.

It was responsible for the following functions: Consolidated Fund; National Loans Fund; government central accounts; civil list; judicial salaries and pensions; Election expenses; and European Assembly election expenses.
