Administrative / biographical background

The East London Business Alliance (ELBA) was created to bring about positive change in East London by connecting the public, private and voluntary sectors to develop investment programmes targeting the economic and social regeneration of East London.

Aligned to its role to provide financial resources for the development of the Stratford Olympic site and surrounding East London areas using UK National Lottery funds, the OLD Board agreed grants to three community projects managed by ELBA: Represent London, ?In the Parks? and Transformers? Community Grants scheme. The OLD made a total grant commitment of £3.1 million split among the three grant programmes as follows: £488,508 for Represent London in £680,656 for ?In the Parks? and just under £2 million for the Transformers small grant scheme.

Represent London was a volunteering and employability programme which enabled 703 young people from 32 schools to benefit from a training package delivered by high profile public and private sector employers and to subsequently fulfil London 2012-related volunteering roles.

In the Parks was a project aimed to increase long term participation in sports through a series of sports festivals in five of the Olympic host boroughs.

The Transformers small grants programme enabled 73 diverse projects to deliver activities which celebrated the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
