The records relate to all aspects of railway management, from items prepared for Board approval to relatively minor matters. Subjects include; railway electrification, road transport, arrangements with the Pullman Car Company, the Standing Joint Committee of the London Passenger Transport Board and the main line companies and the Railway Control Agreements of the Second World War.
This series covers the whole period of the Southern Railway under its four general managers, Sir Herbert Walker, Gilbert Szlumper, Sir Eustace Missenden and Sir John Elliot.
