Description

Captured ship: L'Aigle d'Or otherwise De Goude Arendt (master Onne Arends or Arents).

History: a Prussian merchant ship bound from Brielle to Dunkirk, laden with wine, tea, pot lead [white lead?], soap, sugar, tobacco, wool, currants, Spanish liquorice, train oil, saltfish, cotton, blue paint, sugar candy, breeches etc; taken on 13/24 July 1747 off Blankenberge in Flanders by the privateer Prince of Orange (John Stephenson commanding), and brought into Dover.

Court papers:

  • [CP 1- CP 5]: standing interrogatories, three examinations, commissioner's affidavit;
  • [CP 6]: claim by the master as owner of the ship, and for the cargo on behalf of Prussian merchants;
  • [CP 7-CP 8]: two sets of attested copies and translations of six papers in total;
  • [CP 9]: schedule of the goods proved to be neutral property;
  • [CP 10-CP 11]: attestation, and translation of the 24 ship's papers, with a note of receipt by the master of all the ship's papers except 1-7, 11, 15, 18 and 19.

Ship's papers: SP 1 -7, 11, 15, 18 and 19 only, the rest of the 24 papers having been returned.
