John Frederick TANNER: British. A revolutionary trade unionist and early radical in the early part of the 20th century, Tanner was suspected in the 1920s of being associated with Jacob KIRCHENSTEIN's Soviet espionage and propaganda network. However by the1940s and 1950s he had moved away from the extreme left and was widely regarded as firmly right wing by persuasion
