The Teaching Agency was responsible for initial teacher training in England, as well as the regulation of the teaching profession. It was established as an executive agency of the Department for Education on 1 April 2012, replacing the Training and Development Agency for Schools and parts of the General Teaching Council for England. Responsibility for initial teaching training was later absorbed into the Department for Education in 2018, with the responsibility for regulating teaching passing on to the newly-established Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA).
