Records of the Employment Service relating to responsibilities for finding work and providing training for the unemployed. At the moment, the only record being transferred from the Employment Service is a database. As the Service was not set up until 1987, very few if any paper records will be transferred for a number of years. The database will be in NV 1
For the Service's earlier records dating from the time when its functions were carried out by the Manpower Services Commission see Records created or inherited by the Manpower Services Commission: ET
The Employment Service (ES) was created in October 1987 when the employment functions of the Manpower Services Commission were transferred back to the Employment Department (DE) and merged with the department's Unemployment Benefit Service. ES was launched as an executive agency of the Employment Department Group in April 1990. Following the merger of the Employment Department with the Department for Education in 1995 to form the Department for Education and Employment, ES continued as an agency of the new department.
The main aim of ES is promote an efficient and competitive labour market through its job placement service, the New Deal Initiatives and the provision of training opportunities to the unemployed.
