Incorporated by Act made and passed in 7th year of Reign of King William IVth (1837) as "Company of Proprietors of Stourbridge Extension Canal" (First meeting of General Assembly held 9th August 1837).

By Section 23 of act of 27th July 1846, Oxford Worcester and Wolverhampton Rails Company were authorised to purchase Canal Company subject to certain like provisions contained in Sections 21 and 22 relating to Stratford upon Avon Canal Navigation

By minute of canal company dated 9th November 1846, Canal Company were authorised to carry this sale into effect. By Minute of Committee dated 7th April 1847 seal of Company was authorised to be fixed to Conveyance to Oxford Worcester and Wolverhampton Railway Company (they having paid purchase price of £49,000) and seal was duly affixed that day in presence of Meeting.

By Minute of Committee of Company of Proprietors of Stourbridge Extension Canal dated 6th July 1848, company Clerk was authorised to wind up accounts of Company and furnish printed statement thereof to each proprietor.

Oxford Worcester and Wolverhampton Railway Company was vested in Great Western Railway Company by virtue of Oxford Worcester and Wolverhampton Railway Act 4th August 1845.
