Incorporated under act of 7th June 1793 (33 Geo III, cap.117) as "Company of Proprietors of Stainforth and Keadby Canal Navigation".

By "Stainforth and Keadby Purchase Act 1849", company was vested in "Company of Proprietors of River Dun". Minute of 5th January 1849 of the River Dun Company records latter Company taking possession 1st January, 1849. At meeting of proprietors 6th July 1849, it was reported that Act for transferring Stainforth and Keadby Canal to River Dun Company had received Royal Assent.
